Naivaadhoo, a naturally picturesque island in Haa Dhaalu, welcomes visitors with its pristine white sandy beach and crystalline sea. Spanning an area of 30 hectares, this island paradise captivates with its breathtaking views. Adding to its allure, a small island and finolhu nestled within its lagoon create a scenic wonder. Naivaadhoo boasts a population of 898 people, with around 350 residents currently residing on the island.

Naivaadhoo School: Shaping Education for the Island’s Future
Naivaadhoo School plays a vital role in the island’s educational landscape, offering classes up to grade 10 and catering to a student body of 127 learners. This institution serves as a cornerstone for nurturing knowledge and empowering the island’s youth.
Thatching Traditions and Changing Times
Thatching, a traditional practice passed down through generations, remains an integral activity on Naavaidhoo. Many women on the island earn a substantial income by selling thatch to resorts. However, recent times have seen a decline in the demand for this product, posing new challenges to this longstanding tradition.

Abundant Marine Life and the Call of Fishing
The lagoon surrounding Naivaadhoo teems with an abundance of reef fish, igniting the enthusiasm of children and women to engage in fishing activities. Ruhfushi and Veligandu, located within the lagoon, contribute to the scenic beauty of the area, creating a vibrant and captivating underwater world. Naivaadhoo is home to the Naivaadhoo Dive and Watersports Center. The center offers a variety of activities, including scuba diving, snorkeling, Paddle boating,stand-up paddleboarding, Fun tube riding, Banana boat riding, Jetski riding, Wake boarding, Water skiing, kite boarding and many more activities.

Embracing Tourism: Naivaadhoo Vision
Naivaadhoo is preparing to introduce tourism to the island, capitalizing on its innate natural beauty. The island council has designated a specific zone for tourism and allocated land for guesthouses. Already, a guesthouse has been established, providing comfortable accommodations for visitors. Naivaadhoo Dive and Water Sports center offers an array of exciting activities, including jet skiing and kitesurfing. Diving enthusiasts can explore a magnificent underwater cave on the west side of Naivaadhoo, boasting impressive dimensions and vibrant marine life, making it a captivating diving destination.
Historical Sites: Treasures of the Past
Within Naivaadhoo, two historically significant sites capture the island’s rich heritage. A well located in the forest on the south side of the island, believed to be approximately 90 years old, has historical ties to a former Prime Minister of the Maldives. Additionally, a large wall found in the island’s courtyard, over 90 years old, was constructed by the islanders to shield the village from the elements.
