The educational landscape is further enriched by the Hanimaadhoo Youth Association, which has established the “Saada Pre-School” to enhance early childhood education, serving 68 students.

However, this issue has been recently resolved through the development of a modern harbor. Moreover, the historic Hanimaadhoo International Airport, which opened in 1990 for domestic flights and transformed into an international airport in 2012, has undergone significant expansion. Currently, the airport serves direct flights from India and witnesses the landing of three domestic flights daily. With a 2.1 billion rufiyaa project underway, the airport is set to further evolve with a new 2,640-meter runway and a terminal capable of accommodating 1.3 million passengers per annum. This development is expected to bring substantial economic prosperity to the island, fostering the expansion of exports, the tuna fisheries sector, and other trades and industries, ultimately driving positive changes in the region’s economic development.

Hanimaadhoo’s economy is diverse, with most residents employed in government institutions, while others work in tuna fisheries, reef fisheries, and agriculture. The island boasts 30 registered farmers and possesses a fleet of three sea fishing boats, small fishing boats, and numerous dinghies. In recent years, the tourism industry has witnessed remarkable growth on the island, with eight guest houses and the luxurious Bare Foot Eco Hotel, a 64-room city hotel capable of accommodating 134 tourists simultaneously.
