The discovery of a coffin-like box washed ashore piqued the curiosity of the island’s inhabitants, leading to the establishment of the shrine. The inscription on the box, bearing the name Sayyid al-Sarif Aliul Makki, adds to the enigma surrounding this ancient relic.

A massive log that washed ashore became the center of a community’s effort to hoist it within the shrine’s compound. Every Sunday and Monday night, despite adverse weather conditions, individuals travel to Matheerah to pay their respects, burn incense, and recite Fatiha in honor of Sayyid al-Sarif Aliul Makki. Additionally, an annual celebration takes place on the 11th of Rabiul-Awwal to commemorate his birthday.
